Four Florida beaches are listed in the Top 10 Beach List for 2015, a ranking composed by Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman who is a professor at Florida International University.
The Top 10 Beach List has been ongoing since 1991. The criteria that determines the ranking includes beach material, water temperature, sand softness, smell, trash and litter, safety record and algae.
This year’s top Florida beaches include :
– Barefoot Beach in Bonita Springs (Number 2 on the list)
– St. George Island State Park in the Panhandle (NumberĀ 3 on the list)
– Bill Baggs Cape Coral State Park in Key Biscayne (Number 6 on the list)
– Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park in Naples (Number 9 on the list)
St. George Island State Park has miles of undeveloped beach. Visitors can swim, boat, fish, canoe, hike and camp. Two natural boat ramps provide access to the bay for the smaller boats.
Bill Baggs Cape Coral State Park is home to the oldest standing structure in Miami-Dade county. It is a historic lighthouse that was built in 1825 and reconstructed in 1846. Visitors come to the park to swim, bike and kayak. The park has two restaurants, or guests can reserve pavilions and use their own grills.
Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park is home to wildlife and shorebirds. Visitors enjoy snorkeling the reef, fishing, kayaking, shelling and picnicking. Boaters can explore the natural estuaries of the Cocohatchee River, which leads to the Gulf of Mexico.
