A new study by the Demand Institute shows what Americans really want when purchasing a new home.
The report shows that 28 percent of respondents said that proximity to public transportation was very important ; while 34 percent ranked quality schools as very important and 32 percent said that proximity to work was very important. 48 percent of respondents said that pet-friendliness was more important than the first three traits. Meanwhile, amenities such as a big back yard, high or vaulted ceilings received a low endorsement in the report.
For sellers, the results suggest that that they should play up the strengths of the property, while buyers should focus on what they personally desire in a home.
Louise Keely, from the Demand Institute, says “People should think about what their needs are and make sure they don’t overpay for something that they don’t really want.”
