If you wanted, you could possibly have a piece of the Naples Pier! According to the Naples Daily News, after popular demand, Naples plans to sell “branded” historic planks as souvenirs after the 127-year-old pier, is shut down after the July 4 fireworks to undergo a roughly $1 million renovation.
This idea was brought up at last week’s City Council meeting, telling council they could cut planks into pieces and brand them with pier or city logo and the pier dates (1888-2015), and sell each piece (about 18 by 24 inches) for $100.
Since 1888, the pier has been a big spot for tourists, and is an iconic symbol of Naples’ coastline. Unfortunately, hurricane winds have wrecked the structure, which has been rebuilt a half-dozen times. For a while, it was the only way in and out of Naples. It was built as a 600-foot freight and passenger dock with a post office, but a fire destroyed the post office in 1922.
